Different in Guatemala

In the last few blogs I been gripping about how hard I been trying to be famous with writing a book and my art. Well that is out for now with how hard we are working on our boat. No time to be famous. We are trying to put two new motors in. New to us motors in our boat that are used and old but hopefully are good motors. This means everything needs to be changed. Reline and parts built. Remember we are in the Caribbean. Up a river in Guatemala. Life run at a different pace down here. What you can go to your local hardware store in the states and buy you may find yourself saying. “No they do make this.” They may have never seen or heard of what simple thing you want. No one has been trained here so if you need help it’s what they have learned on their own. With all this It is hot here. This is there dry season now. It only rains here 3 to 4 days a week right now. We will get a shower now and then most days but it’s not a steady down down pour for days. Leaving anything out you’re working on it’s going to get wet. One thing that makes working here really good is labor is cheap. We have two young men that work for us that we pay $15 US a day each and they are happy to be working. They work hard but getting to work on Monday are some what hard on them sometimes. We never fuss. No need. Hard work is looked at as good here but working full time is a little different. Working hard everyday with no fun is not in their culture. I have some of that in me. What we love here is simple living. A place to sleep. Food to eat and some one to love is what they mostly are all about here not piling up money and things. On the love it shows with how they treat the old. Grandma is important to the family here. No fancy car to show off for all that hard work just catch a cattle truck for a few Quetzales going to town and how many can ride standing up in the back of an old cattle truck. At least one more. If they have a few more Quetzales they can ride to town in a pretty chicken bus.

Art in progress:

I have sold some of my art and have done art my whole life so is a young women letting a baby nurse out in public a beautiful thing. I’m still scared to look and would never make their picture but this is common with these simple people. Does sex get in the way with how beautiful that is watching a baby nurse. Back in my studio in the states I have two painting I’m working on one is a naked women standing under a train trestle with and old steam train going over it with a man taking her picture with and old time box camera. The other is a modern large farm tractor out on the prairie with a naked girl setting in one of it’s wheels. Both are just for the sex factor in them for people that like that. I think now when I get back I will do a beautiful young women nursing her baby and see how the market see’s it. I see beauty in my life now ever where with us traveling all the time. Beauty in a man working ox down here hooked to a cart talking to them with a little thin stick he just touches them with. Beauty in watching a little boy here at the marina that has just learned to walk a few months ago now run and crawl in his stroller by himself and play with it like it’s his little car to ride in now. There is always flowers here and during the day the town is always crowed.

Pam is a born shopper and street shopping is her happy day.
